Andhra Pradesh government which is drawing out few guidelines for the farm loan waiver scheme might link Aadhar card to it. AP Agriculture minister Pulla Rao on Wednesday said that government is considering to link Aadhar card to the farm loan waiver scheme and this will benefit the real farmers. “Attaching Aadhar to the farm loan waiver scheme will have an advantage and the fake ones can be easily traced. We have information that there are many people who have produced dummy documents and took loans. For them, farm loan waiver will not be applicable,” added Pulla Rao.
When asked about farmers without Aadhar card, minister added that other alternatives for farmers who don't have Aadhar is being looked at. AP government is heard to be waiting for Reserve Bank of India and Central government approval for the waive for farm loans as it would pose great burden. AP with 13 districts is having Rs 15,000 budget deficit and it has pinned high hopes on the Center.
AP CM Chandrababu Naidu who is currently in Delhi will be meeting PM Narendra Modi and RBI officials. Farm loan waiver scheme is top of Naidu's agenda and seeks RBI's consent. The opposition parties are criticizing this decision of linking Aadhar. “We have expected this conditions from the government and it is now evident that it is going back on its promise. We demand the government to implement farm loan waiver scheme without any conditions,” added a YSRCP leader.
The Kotaiah Committee is yet to give its report to government on how to implement this scheme and with announcement of Aadhar link, beneficiary farmers who don't have Aadhar card are little worried.
